Knitted 'rock' art - a community project just for fun

Posted on

There is an island in the middle of the North Atlantic, roughly halfway between Norway and Iceland which now hosts an unusual tourist attraction: Known as 'the knitted ston', this yarn bombed rock was inspired by a local legend about a 'troll woman' who lived in a cave.

The rock is located on Sandoy Island, the first of the five southern islands that make up the Faroe islands chain.

In 2013, a group of local women got together to cover the rock with a knitted woman. The story of this project is beautifully covered in this short film.

I love the way these ladies had so much fun!
